Time to reTHINK My Internet Presence

Let’s just get it out of the way. I am a hypocrite.

For years, I have stood in front of classrooms, looked eager newcomers in the eye during mentoring sessions, and dropped the exact same piece of sage advice: “If you want to break into cybersecurity, you need to start a blog. Document your learning. Build your portfolio. Let the world see how your brain works!”

It’s great advice. Truly.

The only problem? While I was busy playing the role of the wise cybersecurity guru, my own personal blogging portfolio consisted of absolutely nothing. Zip. Zero. I was the digital equivalent of a mechanic whose own car is making a terrifying knocking sound under the hood, or a dentist who secretly skips flossing.

So, here I am, finally eating my own tech-flavored humble pie.

The Guru’s Confession

To give you a little background—and to prove I’m not just some random guy screaming into the internet void—I’ve spent years teaching cybersecurity courses and mentoring folks trying to break into this wild industry. I’ve designed challenges, guided students through the baffling mazes of identity management, and helped people secure their first real gigs. I’ve got the credentials, the gray hairs, and the battle scars to prove it.

But somewhere along the way, I forgot to follow my own advice.

I fell into the classic trap of thinking, “I’ll build a perfect, custom, beautifully coded website from scratch... eventually.” And you know what happened? "Eventually" turned into years.

If I Can Do This, You Have No Excuses

Today, I decided to stop letting perfect be the enemy of done. I hopped onto Blogger, clicked a few buttons, and—boom—this post was born. No agonizing over web servers, no spending three days tweaking CSS configuration files, just pure, unadulterated deployment.

And that is exactly what I want to show those of you who are just starting out: It is ridiculously easy to start.

You don't need a pristine, custom-coded empire to start building your portfolio. You just need a keyboard and a willingness to share what you're working on.

Consider this my formal declaration of solidarity. From here on out, I’m practicing what I preach. I’m going to be right here in the trenches with you, building out my digital portfolio, sharing insights on tech, and documenting the journey.
